Chiropractic Care and Earaches

Chiropractic Care and Earaches

Patients who are receiving chiropractic care report that they can avoid and recover from earaches and ear infections much more quickly than those who do not receive chiropractic care.

Children are more susceptible to ear infections due to their Eustachian tubes being more horizontal than an adult's. If there is blockage in the tube, infection arises more easily. There is a small muscle that opens the Eustachian tube that is controlled by nerves coming from the upper neck. If those nerves have interference, the muscle will not function as it should and the tube becomes blocked and fills with fluid, leading to an ear infection.

Medical doctors are realizing that most ear infections are viral in nature and do not respond to antibiotics. Chiropractic care can be a good alternative to the use of antibiotics or doing nothing but watching the ear infection get worse.

I have a young patient that I first saw after talking with her parents at church. Their daughter had been miserable throughout the service, crying most of the time. I asked her parents if she had an ear infection and after feeling neck, was able to tell the parents which ear was affected. They brought her into my office the next day. I adjusted this young girl's neck and her ear infection started to clear up within a few hours. At the second visit they admitted they were skeptical at first, but were now convinced of the efficacy of chiropractic. After that her parents brought her to me at the first sign of an ear infection.

I have always checked my own children and have had very few instances of ear infection with them. I recently had an ear infection as an adult and can understand why children are so miserable when they have an ear infection. In my case, I needed antibiotics, but I also used chiropractic care to quicken my recovery.

When the body is allowed to heal itself by removing nerve interference, it is amazing what it can do.
